Açaí Bowl

Açaí bowls are a dream. Feels like you’re eating a delicious sorbet but a very healthy one super rich in antioxidants. Like other berries the high content in antioxidants of the açaí  is meant to protect your body from free-radical damage which can lead to chronic diseases as well as preventing the ageing process of your cells. In this recipe I use Açaí powder. The product is dry-frozen, which basically means the pulp is frozen and then the water is removed. It’s a great way to preserve nutrients. The toppings are everything and for me granola is a must, together with almond butter which gives you a delicious spoonful of healthy fats and plant protein. Tropical fruits also go really well as a topping and passion fruit is a favourite.

For the Açaí:

  • 1 & 1/2 cups Frozen Mixed Red Fruits
  • 1 & 1/2 Bananas
  • 1 heaped tbsp Açaí powder

Toppings Ideas:

  • Granola
  • 1/2 Banana
  • 1tbsp Almond
  • 1tbsp Desiccated Coconut
  • 1 Passion Fruit
  • 5 Strawberries

Method:

  1. Add to your food processor the frozen red fruits, the banana, the açaí powder and 1-2 tablespoons of water to help blend. Blend everything till smooth. The consistency is very similar to sorbet. (I like the bitter flavour but if you prefer you could add a date to the blender to make the mixture sweeter)
  2. I like to serve with granola in the bottom, then the açaí followed with loads of nice toppings like almond butter, strawberries and desiccated coconut.
